Welcome to Sloth Bricks!
Sloth Bricks will also be known as my internet experiment to chronicle my LEGO journey post retirement (and post move to Panamà).
Two years ago, I had an impressive LEGO collection. Hundreds of sets, scrupulously all stored together. Less than half had actually been built. I didn’t have time, what with working and all, and there were just sooooo many sets that I had to have. I’d amassed the collection over 15 years.
However, I knew that we were moving abroad, and I couldn’t possible take my whole collection with me. So, over the following 18 months, I divested or donated roughly 75 percent of my collection.
Hard decisions were made. Sets that I loved but I knew would never build again were sold (bye, 21306 Yellow Submarine and 21310 Old Fishing Store). Boxes that I’d kept flattened and stored for year were recycled. The same went for instruction books, save for some older ones that I knew were helpful (I’m looking at you, 10228 Haunted House).
The collection I brought with me was not small – it’s still over 200 sets. I will continue to buy, sell and donate.
But I want to chronicle building some of those older sets that I never cracked open. Ever wonder how many brown pieces will break in a new copy of 10236 Ewok Village? Just how many times 10263 Winter Village Fire Station can be rebuilt before the dark red pieces start to break? Sloth Bricks will be that place.
I’m also hoping to find and connect (pun intended!) with other AFOLs in Panamà, Latin America, and beyond.
